The Effectiveness of Bioorganic Fertilizer of Sludge from Paper Industry to improve Growth and Nutrient Status of Selected Plants
ABSTRACT
Paper mill waste sludge can be used as material for producing bioorganic fertilizer since the high carbon content as well as other macro and micro nutrient. Application of sludge as organic fertilizer have been done in other countries and show that application of organic sludge fertilizer increase plant growth, improve soil properties and reduce pest and disease attack. The use of sludge as organic fertilizer has been assessed for food (kangkung and corn), estate (rubber), and forest (nyamplung, acasia, albizia) crop. The result showed that application of sludge as raw material of bioorganic fertilizer resulted positive affect on the growth and nutrient status of kangkung, corn, nyamplung and rubber as well as acasia. Utilization of bioorganic sludge fertilizer reduce the dose of inorganic fertilizer as much as 50%.
