The most important considerations of forest management planning such as in yield prediction or yield regulation are athe information of stand strucature dynamic and stand potency of athe managed forest. By modeling approach the evolution of the stand structure dynamics can be predicted over time. It is also a atool to help decision makers in their choice for forest management. The study was aimed to obtain stand structure dynamic model fo logged-over natural forest. The present study is an initial modelingexercise using time series data from re-measured permanent sample plots of logged-over swamp forest in the concession area of PT Putraduta Indah Wood, Jambi. The stand is described by the distribution of the trees by diameter class and species group (commercial, non-commercial, and all species). The stand structure dynamic models were constructed based on correlation between diameter and number of trees per hectare. In general, the models followed the negative exponential equation, namely Ndi t = k e -f(Di, NOdi, t), where : Ndi t is the number of trees in diameter class i at time t, Di is the diameter class i, NOdi is the number of trees in diameter class i at the first measurement, t is the measurement year since the first measurement, k is a constant that indicates the stand density at the lowest diameter class, e is the natural logaaarithm number, and f(Di, NOdi, t) is a function that will affect the rate offf diminishing the number of trees in successive diameter classes. The resulting models of each species group are : - commercial: Ndi t = 774.89100 e -(0.08508 Di -0.00026 NOdi t) with R quadrrate = 99.1 percent - non-commercial: Ndi t = 220.42636 e -(0.09156 Di - 0.00211 NOdi t) with R quadrate = 97.7 percent - all species: Ndi t = 1087.30415 e -(0.08855 Di -0.00025 NOdi t) with R quadrate = 99.2 percent The resulting models were used to simulate and estimate stand growth (structure and volume) of logged-over swamp natural foraaaest in 10 years projection period.
