Penentuan panjang seksi batang optimal dalam pendugaan volume pohon Pinus (Pinus merkusii)
Pinus merkusii Jungh et De Vriese a conifer which has excurrent log form. On the tree volume estimation, the log was devided into sections to reduce log form influence. In this method, log form determined by length section made essentially important for determining the time efficiency for tree volume estimation. Longer log section would estimaate the tree volume more rapidly. However, it provides less accurancy for tree volume setimation. Therefore, the maximum length for log section should be determined which still covered the accurate range of tree volume estimation. The aim of this research was to determine the optimum length of log section for Pinus merkusii as a tree volume estimator. The formulas used for this research were the Smalian, Huber, Newton, Bruce and Bereton, and a 1 meter log measured using Smaliaan formula was used as a control. The optimum length of log section determined based on aggregate and average deviations were 2, 3, 5, and 10m measured by formulas of Smalian, Huber, Newton and Bereton, respectively. The result showed that Bruce's formula should not be used for tree volume estimation of Pinus merkusii. By considering the practicaal and accuracy factors, Bereton's formula was the most appropriaaate formula, hence should be chosen to estimate the volume of Pinus merkusii.
