Pengeruh tiga jenis makanan tambahan terhadap tingkat konsumsi, kandungan protein lebah pekerja, dan perkembangan koloni lebah maddu Apis mellifera (Hymenoptera : Apidae)
Food consumption, worker body protein, and brood rearing activity of Apis mellifera honeybees werre compared in colonies fed pollen supplement composed of soy-been flour + skim milk + maize pollen blend (KSP), two pollen substitutes consisting of soy-bean flour + skim milk + cassava fermenting yeast (KSR) and soy-bean flour + skim milk + chicken egg yolk (KST), and control without a supplementary feeding. Food supplements were given to the colonies as stiff pastes by adding sugar syrup (1 S : 1 H2O w/v) to the dry mixtures of each formula (4 : 1 : 1 w/w). The study showed that the mean food cosumption of colonies fed on KSR and KSP were found significantly higher than those fed on KST (374 : 350 : 270 gr/2 weeks) when they had pollen trap on the entrance hives. Although higher amount of food consumption also found in colonies fed on KSP (256 gr/2 weeks) comparaed to those fed on KST (176 gr/2 weeks) before they had pollen trap, but no difference was found between groups of KST and KSR (212 gr/2 weeks). The mean percentage of worker body protein in colonies fed on KSR, KSP, KST, and control werre about 10.1 percent, 9.8 percent, and 9.5 percent, respectively. The mean percentage of worker body protein in colonies fed on KSR was significantly higher tahan that fed on KST, but did not differ significantly from that fed on other groups. Brood-rearing activeities were found fluctuated in almost similar pattern of all groups, exept in the final 2-weeks of observation where they were found decreasing in only group of colonies fed on KST.
