Pemilihan metoda dan media uji perkecambahan benih Kiputih (Homallium tomentosum Benth.)
Insustaining the success of planting Kiputih seeds, high qualities of such seeds are required. The high-quality seeds could be recognized among others germination test trial. Inherent with such, this experiment was aimed at selection the methods as well as media which are appropriate/suitable for the germination of kiputih seeds. Selecting the most appropriate method was conducted in the Laboratory, while looking into the most suitable media experimentally took place in the greenhouse. There were 3 kinds of methods as employed, i.e. (1) on-the paper testing, (2) inter-paper testing, and (3) the testing with the paper rolled and vertically positioned. Meanwhile, the media consisted of four stuffs, i.e. vermiculate, coconut-hust dusk, soil, fine sand, and mixture offf soil and fine soil (1 : 1, w/w). Any particular media as well as methods able to afford the seeds with the germination percentage 66 percent or above was considered as the most suitable/appropriate. As such, a completely randomized design was assigned to assist selecting the most suitable/appropriate one. It turned out that the implemantation of inter-paper testing conducted in the laboratory and vermiculate media in greenhouse could achieve satisfactory percentage of seed germination, i.e. 66- and 82.5 percent, respectively.
