Pengaruh metoda pengeringan dan perlakuan pematahan dormansi terhadap viiabilitas benih Kayu Afrika (Maesopsis eminii Engler)
Musizi ( Maesopsis eminii Engler) is a fast growing species and economically importanttimber species. This research wasss conducted because the difficulties to get high quality and uniformity on seedling growth and only a few reeeports about Musizi seeds. The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of drying methods and dormancy breaking treatments on seed viability. Three drying methods and time dormancy breaking treatments were tested in a CRBD (Complete Randomized Block Design) with 2 factors: 1) drying methods (factor K) are K1 : forced air drying treatment with temperature ± 17 derajat C in two days, K2 : Seeds were dryed under direct sunlight in two days from 09.00 am till 14.00 pm, K3 : mechanical drying (dryer) with temperature 35 - 40 derajat C in one day, 2) breaking dormancy factor (factor P) using 4 treatments, which are : P1 : control, P2 : soaking seed in H2SO4 20 minutes, P3 : soaking seed in KNO3 0.2 percent for 30 minutes, P4 : soaking seed in GA3 500 ppm for 24 hours and P5 : soaking seed in H2O2 3 percent for 24 hours. There were 15 treatments combination with 3 replicaaation. Parameters measured were germination speed, potential growth, seed germination, dormancy intensity, plant height and total number of leaves. Musizi seeds germinated from 34 days after sowing till 50 days. Drying treatment did not have significant effect on all parameters while dormancy treatments were effective on Kct and ID.
