Ujicoba pemberian pakan pada burung Beo Alor (Gracula religiosa mertensi) di penangkaran Oilsonbai, Kupang
A research was conducted in a Wildlife Breeding Station in Oilsonbai on the suburbs of Kupang City, N1T Province, in 2 month period ( September to October 2002). The research was aimed to find out the effects of providing various kinds of high protein food for consumption, body growth, and ability to 'talk' of the Alor Myna's in the breeding station. The results of this research were expected to serve as input for breeders in general to perfect their techniques/methods of breeding Alor Myna's and thereby be capable of saving the bird from extinction and presel-ving their population growth. This research used 2 young Alor Myna's, with Hongkong worms (Tenebrio mollitor), tomatoes, bananas, spinach, and rice mixed with ground-up of red pepper, salt, and vitavit as the kind of food given. The research showed the average of food consumption of Alor M).'na' s was about 282.7 gramslhead/day, with the amount of Hongkong worms (Tenebrio mollitor) consumed was 2.8 worms/head every 4 days, tomatoes was. 144.1 grams/head/day, bananas was 120.9 grams/head/day, spinach was 8.0 grams/head/day, and mixed rice with ground-up of red pepper was 9.7 grams/head/ every 2 days. The mixture of food were able to increase about 21.4 grams/head/day of the Myna's body weight and about 1.1 cm/head/day of body length. The capability of Myna's talks were 7 kinds of sound, namely, the whistling sound, hellolhi, good morning/morning, good day/day, beo/eo (Myna's), eak, and uncle Jhon. On the average, the length of 'talking' time for the Alor Myna's at the station was 0,59 minutes/head/day.
