Pola usahatani tumpangsari di bawah tagakan hutan tanaman Khaya anthoteca di BKPH Majenang, Jawa Tengah
The dependence of people surrounding Khaya anthotheca farm land plantation forest in Majenang Forest District is relatively high. Consequently, the establishment of timber estate should provide not only wood as industry material but also increase the welfare people. Usually, farmers plant annual crops in plantation forest area together with initial trees and which is called taungya system. The farmers usually establish taungya system in forest plantation 1 - 2 years after forest tree planting. As a short period of taungya could not provide enough and continue on farmers income. Therefore, other alternatives in selecting crops cultivated after paddy, maize and peanut should be developed. Three patterns of taungya farming system under K. anthotheca plantation forest had been applied i.e: pattern A (paddy, maize, peanut and juicy tuber), B (paddy, mize and peanut) and C (juicy tuber). K. anthotheca stands were three years old with 3 x 2 meter spacing. Data collections were done by interviewed with selected respondents and field observation. Net total income of pattern A farming system (Rp 1,684,000/year/0.5 ha) could contribute better net income to the farmers than that of pattern B (Rp 265,500/year/0.5 ha) and pattern C (Rp 1,484,000/year/0.5 ha). The average height growth of 3 years old K. anthotheca within taungya system was 62.72 cm with diameter 1.03 cm whereas that of without taungya was only 25.88 and 0.59 cm for height and diameter respectively.
