Ujicoba provenansi Internasional Liquidambar styraciflua L. di Indonesia
The Forest and Nature Conservation Research and Development Centre in Bogor in collaboration with the Commonwealth Forestry Institute, Oxford University, England, is participating in an international provenance trials of Liquidambar styraciflua research. The objective of this research was to evaluate the growth performance of six-year old L. styraciflua in Pasirhantap and Haurbentes experimental forests, West Java. Eight provenances were evaluated in terms of total height, clear bole length, stem diameter and bole straightness in small rectangular plots size of 17.5 m x 17.5 m containing 9 trees with 2.5 m x 2.5 m spacing. The plots were laid out in a completely randomized design with unbalanced replications in each location. Based on the parameters measured, provenance no. 5/84 of Finca Las Victorias from Guatemala showed the best growth performances in both experimental forests. Parameter values of total height, clear bole length, and stem diameter for provenance no. 5/84 of Finca Las Victorias in Pasirhantap experimental forests were 12.0780 m, 2.7212 m, and 38.4149 cm, respectively, whereas in Haurbentes experimental forests were 9.4690 m, 2.8718 m, and 27.4067 cm, respectively. Before provenance no. 5/84 of Finca Las Victorias from Guatemala are recommended to be planted in the large scale in the area heaving similar ecological condition to that of Pasirhantap and Haurbentes experimental forests, demonstration plots must be made prior to any recommendation .
