Pengaruh wadah dan waktu penyimpanan terhadap kualitas benih Pterygota alata Roxb.

Pterygota alata is one of the exotic wood species, which has well prospective to be developed in Indonesia. To support such development activities, the stock of seeds with good quality condition is important. The seed of this species has short dormant time, so it cannot be stored for a long time. This condition could cause a problem from planting schedule point of view. Therefore, it is important to know the storing technique, in order to maintain the quality of seeds until planting season. The aim of this trial test was find out the best method of storing P. alata seed. The seed were placed in different storage plates and places. The seed were planted every two weeks for subsequent 20 weeks. A. completely randomized design with 2 factors, 5 containers and 10 planting times was applied and each was replicated 3 times. The result showed that the seeds which were stored in refrigerator (4° - 5° C) had better quality after planting process compared to those stored in room temperature. The seeds stored in the vacuumed stored and in refrigerator still showed high percentage (79,84 percent) of seedling germination after storing for 20 weeks.
