Kajian pemanfaatan sumberdaya hutan di Taman Nasional Ujung Kulon oleh Masyarakat setempat
A study on the utilization of forest resources in Ujung Kulon National Park (UKNP) by local community was conducted in the districts of Sumur (including four villages : Taman Jaya, Kerta Jaya, Tunggal Jaya, and Cigorondong) and Cimanggu (including four villages : Tangkilsari, Cimanggu, Mangku Alam, and Kerta Jaya). The aim of this study was to identify the goods and services utilized by people living around the UKNP and the perception about the existence of the UKNP. Data and information were gathered through interviewing 20 respondents each village (total 160 respondents) and searching literature. The results showed that the interactions performed by people living at the districts of Sumur and Cimanggu were the utilization of firewood, timber for housing construction and furniture, and medicinal plants. Firewood was the main forest resource used by the community living in the vicinity of the park for domestic energy. It seems that the number of firewood taken varied depending on the number of family member particularly for the community living in coastal villages. The community living in the vicinity of the UKNP were basically realized the function and advantage of the park and the importance of the conservation. Of the 8 (eight) villages, the people from the village Taman Jaya had the highest perception (60 percent), followed by village Cimanggu (55 percent), while village Tangkilsari and Kerta Jaya were the lowest (50 percent respectively).
