Distribusi dan penyebaran potensi jenis damar matakucing (Shorea javanica K&V) di Kabupaten Lampung Barat
Study on the distribution and potention dispersal of Shorea javanica (damar matakucing) in West Lampung District is aimed at understanding its distribution and population at original habitat at Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park. Stratified random sampling method was used in the study to set up the sampling unit of distribution and damar potency at national park. The 5 (five) of sampling unit were the plot of 1.000 m in length and 20 m width in size. Set up at the same direction with crossing land slope. The result indicated that 65 species of trees of 32 families were found in 5 (five) plots which and dominated by Dipterocarpaceae trees in clumped distribution. Density of the trees in the study area was 112.5 trees/ha, 421.2 individual/ha of poles, 3144 individual/ha of sapling, and 19,971 individual/ha of seedling. The density of Shorea javanica trees was 2.8 trees/ha, poles was 8.2 individual/ha, sapling was 151 individual/ha and the seedlings was 824 individual/ha. Shorea javanica in this areas has become the main source of income for the Krui local people, so the participation of the society is very important in maintaince the park. Shorea javanica plantation at West Lampung is also important as buffer zone of the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park and this indicates the wise management of forest resources traditionally and sustainable for several periods.
