Hubungan antara sifat-sifat tanah dan komposisi vegetasi di daerah Tabalar, Kabupaten Berau, Kalimantan Timur
A study of the relationship between soil characteristics and vegetation composition in Tabalar, Berau District, East Kalimantan was carried out in March 2001. This study was aimed to discusses a relationship between soil characteristics and vegetation composition based on three observation plots. The study observed and analised soil characteristics and vegetation composition. Three 1 km long transects were laid down on each research site. The vegetation composition were observed. Trees (plant with 10 cm in diameter) within 20 x 20 square meter plots were inventoried in each transect. While poles of 2 - 10 cm in diameter were inventoried within 10 x 10 square meter plots in each transect. Beside that, the study observed for soil characteristics were done by making soil profile of 1,5 x 1,5 x 1,5 meters, which were laid down in each plot. Therefore there were 3 soil profiles. Results of the study indicated that: the slope strongly influenced soil physical and chemical characteristics that determines the level of soil fertility, the flatter land showed higher level of soil fertility and the richness of vegetation composition also increased.
