Pola tata niaga gaharu di Profinsi Riau
Gaharu is a part of wood or root from certain wood species that has been chemically or physically modified by a fungi-type through infectious areas. There is a big demand of gaharu in abroad every year. However, the gaharu price has a significant fluctuation due to lack of its marketing system. Up to now the publication on gaharu trading system is very limited. Therefore, the research on trading system of gaharu is required. This research was conducted in Riau province as a big gaharu producer in Sumatera Island. The results of study found that gaharu trading system is usually conducted through a distribution channel from gaharu seeker - gaharu collectors - gaharu trader/exporters. The profit magin obtained among the parties involved in gaharu trading system is not fairly distributed. The highest percentage of profit margin is received by trader (75 persen) and followed by collectors (20 persen) and the gaharu sekeers (5 persen). Therefore, for a better trading system and conserving gaharu sources, the government should monitor and control the trading of gaharu and try to force the gaharu businessmen for cultivating gaharu in order to improve the supply of gaharu and provide job opportunities for local people. The success of gaharu cultivation in the near future will help local government (especially for provinces that have been known as potential gaharu producers) for gathering local incomes and improving the prosperity of its local people.
