Genotype – Environment Interaction of Acacia mangium at the Second Generation (F2) Seedling Seed Orchards Established on Two Location in Sumatera and Kalimantan
ABSTRACT
The research conducted to investigate genotype - environment interaction at the second generation (F2) of Acacia mangium Seedling Seed Orchard (SSO) in two locations: Sumatera and Kalimantan. Both the SSO-s have established by using 51-55 families taken from Group B (Papua New Guinea population). Growth of 3 years old of trees from the same families in both locations (31 families) have analyzed in two traits: height and diameter. The result of the analyses indicated that the genotype - environment interaction strongly happen. The genotypic stability were very low for all trait indicated by a very highly significant of the interaction of genotype and
environment variance component (?2 ). The ratio ?2
/ ?2
of height and diameter were also very

high over the Shelbourne critical value. Selection in a location is not always better for applied in
another. It was suggested that regionalization of seedling seed orchard as a seed source will be
more effective to get its genetic gain for the plantation.
